The Date: Wednesday 19th March 2008, Sadlers Wells Theatre, London

The Event: The 2008 Awards Ceremony was held on Wednesday 19th March at the Sadlers Wells Theatre in London. The event was attended by the exhibiting photographers, photographic agents, picture agencies, industry suppliers and magazine editors, art directors, art buyers, creative heads, sponsors, press and account handlers and it is well known as THE photographic event of the year.

The Programme for 2008:
5.30pm – Sponsor & Press Preview
6.30pm – Drinks reception & viewing of images
8.00pm – Awards presentation
9.00pm – Further viewing of images and collection of Awards Book
10.00pm – Awards 2008 Closed

The Location:
Sadler's Wells is Located in Islington, near Angel underground. Usually home to a dynamic contemporary dance programme, for one night a year, the AOP Photographers Awards take over the whole building with the full exhibition and Awards presentation.

Sadler's Wells breaks new ground in theatre design with its stylish, accessible front-of-house areas, flexible auditorium and purpose-built entertaining and meeting spaces. But behind the stylish glass, brick, wood and steel of the new theatre is a history of over 300 years and six previous theatre buildings which have all carried the Sadler's Wells name and occupied the same site since the very first Sadler's Wells theatre opened in 1683.

The Buzz:
The 2008 Awards night went off with a bang, as around 1,200 photographers, agents, industry suppliers, sponsors and press came to see the exhibition and hear who had won the coveted Awards. Friends and colleagues mingled to view the 312 images which were displayed over three floors of Sadlers Wells, before going into the auditorium where Hardeep Singh Kohli presented the Awards. 23 Awards were given out in total with Greg White won the very first AOP Photographer of the Year Award.

2009 Awards:
The Date for the 2009 Awards is still to be confirmed, but it will be back at Sadlers Wells and is due to take place in April 2009. All the up-to-date information will be posted here as soon as it is available.
